Chennai Corporation signs MoU with Brussels

Under the agreement corporation run schools are to get expertise assistance in the field of education.

Chennai: Chennai corporation on Wednesday signed an agreement with City of Brussels to develop innovative civic aspects relating to smart city, urban planning and solid waste management. A high level Belgian delegation met the state officials and discussed about the waste to energy technologies at a function held at the Ripon Buildings, the city corporation headquarters.

Addressing the delegation local administration minister S P Velumani said the partnership agreement is a sign of spirit, to promote common values of democracy, human dignity, solidarity and environmental protection, in the areas of urban development and urbanisation challenges. Based on the agreement Chennai will look forward for sustainable and inclusive economic development, Smart Cities solutions, Support to tackle Global warming, and Climate Change, the minister said.

The minister also informed that the Brussels Capital Region, has already provided, sufficient budgetary provision, for projects, for civil society organizations, in partnership regions, including Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai. Velumani also emphasised that the cporporation has already entered into Memorandum of Understanding, with Ulsan Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea, for the promotion of, frien dly relations, between the cities, a similar agreement.

It may be noted that the Belgian delegation is a on preliminary study to understand the issues pertaining to Chennai ranging from solid waste to pollution. Under the agreement corporation run schools are to get expertise assistance in the field of education.
