Marathon for 100 per cent voting

The collector also inaugurated a signature campaign at the Netaji stadium here in which the participants signed.

Vellore: Students from various schools and colleges ran a marathon from the New Bus stand here on Friday to create awareness among the public to exercise their franchise in the coming Assembly elections.

The marathon was flagged off by the district Collector and district election officer, Dr R.Nanthagopal in which DRO K.Manivannan, election officer Ajay Srinivasan, plan director for Women Plan Lokanayagi, Indian Red Cross Society secretary Indranath and district sports officer Nagarajan and other officials participated.

Speaking to newsmen Dr Nanthagopal said, that this time the district had been aiming for 100 per cent polling and the students should create awareness among the general public about the importance of voting in choosing their leaders. The collector also read out the election Oath, before the marathon started which the participants repeated. The collector also inaugurated a signature campaign at the Netaji stadium here in which the participants signed.
