Tallest' NTR statue unveiled in Sattenapalli

He said that it was NTR who first started welfare schemes for the poor, and TD was continuing the trend activities.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday unveiled a 36-ft tall bronze statue of Telugu Desam founder N.T. Rama Rao and also inaugurated two parks on the banks of NTR Sagar at Sattenapalli. The statue has been installed on a 40-ft high platform in the middle of the pond and provides a commanding view of the surroundings.

The NTR Sagar, Vavilala Ghat and the bronze statue were built at a cost of Rs 12 crore and the area would be developed as a mini-Tank Bund on the lines of the Hussainsagar in Hyderabad, Mr Naidu said.

He said that it was NTR who first started welfare schemes for the poor, and TD was continuing the trend activities. “A majority of the states in the country are following NTR’s welfare schemes,” he said.

Mr Naidu pointed out that the TD government had spent Rs 4,000 crore on the Polavaram project, but the BJP-led NDa government was an obstacle to it by stopping release of funds. He added that residuary AP was facing financial difficulties due to the failure of the NDA government to fulfil bifurcation assurances and blocking funds.

Mr Naidu accused Prime Minister Narender Modi, TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of trying to create differences between castes in AP like “vultures”.
