KMC fails to raise garden in 5 years

Residents find the place still unfit.

Kakinada: Though residents of several colonies have been coming forward to participate in development works and in a bid to improve their colonies, the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) has not been able to make use of their services.

In fact, it has been showing apathy over the colonies. There is no speed up works in the colonies.

Srividya Colony Park is the best example for the worsening administration of the KMC. According to residents of the colony, the KMC proposed developing a park at Srividya Colony around five years back. There was a plot of around one and a half acre of land available.

To protect it, a parapet wall was built then five years back. After three years, a foot path was laid and children playing equipment set up. One year back, Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao (Kondababu) laid the stone for the beautification of the park at a cost of Rs.28.70 lakh by creating infrastructure facilities. As part of it, horticulture development is a major development work that was to be incorporated in the park venture. Saplings of different kinds of flowers, aromatic and others, had been planned for the park.

The KMC invited tenders for planting the saplings at the park and work order has been given to the contractor. ''But, till now, the work has not started, though the colony people submitted repeated representations to the civic authorities. There is no lighting in the park'' said the Colony President G.Satya Murthy.

Residents of the colony said that though there was a site and a park for their colony, there was no possibility of playing in the park for the children or breathe easy for the elders.

They said that the people are getting ready to maintain it for better manner, if the KMC completes the development works and handover to it the colony.
