Telangana: Chill to drop below norm

The coldest day in Hyderabad this December was 11th (Monday), when the mercury plunged to 12.7°C.

Hyderabad: Night temperatures will drop 3-4 degrees Celsius below normal as cold moisture-laden winds from the north move in. There is no cold wave alert for now — that is issued only if the temperature falls by 5ºC below normal.

There is no official date for the onset of the winter season, unlike for the Southwest Monsoon. However, the meteorological department sees the peak winter months in Telangana as January and February. Minimum night temperatures gradually drop from the middle of December.

Met forecasts cloudy skies for Telangana in coming weeks
Director of the Hyderabad meteorological department Y.K. Reddy told Deccan Chronicle, “Over the next three or four days, the night temperatures will fall 3-4°C below normal for this time of year, the reason being a change in the wind direction.”“Cold winds from the north/north-easterlies will hit the state. The drop in temperature will last for a week. If the temperature falls beyond five degrees, then a cold wave warning will be issued,” Mr Reddy added.

The local forecast for the city for the coming days is fog/mist in the morning hours and partly cloudy skies. Dry weather will prevail across other districts and the entire Telangana state will experience a gradual fall in minimum temperatures in the next three days.
