Amaravati works will speed up, says AP CM Chandrababu Naidu

N Chandrababu Naidu said that 1,500 electric vehicles would be introduced in Amaravati in the near future.

Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) clearing the construction of the capital Amaravati, saying, “This is a good sign, from now onwards the construction of the capital city will be done faster. We have been proceeding according to the rules right from the beginning.”

Mr Naidu said that he wanted to build a dynamic capital city that employed modern technology.

He said that 1,500 electric vehicles would be introduced in Amaravati in the near future.

NGT says IT’S not floodplain
The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) refused to accept the contention that construction of the capital city was being carried out in a floodplain.

The bench disposed of applications filed by retired IAS officer E.A.S. Sarma, Pandalaneni Srimannarayan and others challenging the AP government’s construction of the capital city in a floodplain region, without environmental clearance. The AP government contended that what was being referred to as a floodplain was not a floodplain as understood in common parlance, or legally. It said that a regular bund had been constructed to protect the area from the rigours of flooded rivers.
