Bengaluru: With Bengaluru’s pothole ridden roads and frequent flooding getting nationwide attention, companies operating from the city feel that government apathy towards the grave situation is damaging the IT City’s image.
Members of the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) on Tuesday wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on how the brand image of Bengaluru is going down because of potholed roads and lack of infrastructure. They also highlighted the complacent attitude of the BBMP in attending to the complaints.
The ORRCA has also written to the BBMP commissioner, joint commissioners of Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli zones about the ongoing issues and also complained about the possible problems that would arise if the drain on the Outer Ring Road connecting Bellandur is not desilted, said Pranesh Raghavendra Kulkarni, administrator, ORRCA.
If at all the drains are desilted and stormwater is allowed to flow freely by connecting pipes, flooding and loss to public and private properties can be avoided, he said.
Further, the recent flooding near Ecospace on ORR and pothole-ridden roads have put at least 1.32 lakh employees in distress, apart from regular users of ORR. “The poor infrastructure is impacting brand Bengaluru as there is growing sense that Bengaluru is at a risk with inadequate infrastructure vis-a-vis other destinations. With increasing social media coverage, the situation is being closely monitored by CEOs, many of whom operate from other parts of India or overseas,” he said.
The ORRCA, 18 months ago, had requested the BBMP to take measures to decongest Central Silk Board and K.R. Puram junctions. Their request fell on deaf ears, putting scores of people through untold miseries, he said.
The complaint is also brought to the notice of IT Minister Priyank Kharge and Benglauru Development Minister K.J. George, he said.
