Govt sabotaged loan scheme: Congress

The government had earlier announced that interest-free loan of up to Rs.1 lakh will be provided to affected families through Kudumbashree units.

Kochi: The state government has sabotaged the interest-free loan facility, named 'Resurgent Kerala loan scheme -2018', offered for flood hit families, V.D. Satheesan, MLA, has alleged.

The government itself has added unnecessary and infeasible conditions for getting the loan, making it inaccessible for many, he said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

The government had earlier announced that interest-free loan of up to Rs.1 lakh will be provided to affected families through Kudumbashree units.

"Rs.10 lakh is the maximum amount a self help group can be given. If the unit has availed a loan earlier, it will also be included in the Rs. 10 lakh limit. Each self-help group has nearly 20 members and many of them earlier availed linkage loan of up to Rs. 5 lakh.

Though moratorium has been announced for bank loans, repayment of Kudumbashree loan has to begin from next month. Loan repayment is the collective responsibility of the group which will lead to widespread dispute among members," he alleged.

He added that the government has not yet assessed the extent of damage caused to traders.

The loan offer of Rs.10 lakh for traders has not been realised. "It is unfortunate that banks, with high amount of deposits, are not ready to help the affected during the crisis period," the Congress leader added.

Satheesan also demanded prosecution of all those who are responsible for the deluge. KSEB should publicise the details like quantity of water that reached dams, quantity of water discharge from each dam and quantity of power generated from August 1 to 18, he demanded.
