Jurala farmers rejoice as outflows at Almatti begin

Back to Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects, the water-levels remained at the same level owing to zero inflow.

Hyderabad: At last, bringing cheer to farmers under Jurala ayacut, the water outflow from Almatti began as the inflow of 25,000 cusecs of water was expected on Tuesday at Narayanapur project which is receiving 608 cusecs of flood water. It has 23.85 tms of water.

Back to Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects, the water-levels remained at the same level owing to zero inflow. Barring Kaddam and Yellampalli, the projects under Godavari basin, also did not receive fresh flow on Tuesday.

Almatti on Monday recorded 1,28,000 cusecs of inflow and it rose to 1,55,000 cusecs on Tuesday, while the present water-level is 113.23 tmc as against its full capacity of 129.72 tmc. When that level is attained, Telangana projects under Krishna basin will begin receiving inflow.

Kaddam project in Nirmal district has almost reached full reservoir-level as the current water-level is 697.52 ft as against the total 700 ft. It is just four metres short of 148 metres total water-level. The irrigation department officials opened three gates on Monday and two gates on Tuesday. The water flow from Kaddam reached Yellampalli on Monday night. Sriramsagar project started receiving inflow but in a modest range.

Taliperu project in Bhadradri Kothagudem district has been receiving heavy inflow and officials lifted 12 gates by two ft and five gates by one feet and has been releasing 5,000 cusecs of water.

Vamshadhara and Nagavali in AP have been receiving heavy flood inflow. The officials opened 22 gates of Gotta barrage where 13,000 cusecs inflow and outflow is recorded on Tuesday evening.

Gates of Thotapalli, Madhuvalasa reservoirs are also totally lifted and officials alerted the people living downstream and cautioned the fishermen to not go for fishing.
