Hyderabad varsity students file plaints on each other

Both student groups gave written complaints to the university and to the police on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Clashes between students of rival political ideologies in the University of Hyderabad late on Saturday night left a student of the varsity’s Telugu department with a fractured leg.

UoH ABVP president Kaluram Palsaniya said, “Amol Singh and his brother Sumel Singh also raised slogans regarding Kashmir and Punjab, insulted the Indian Army and attacked us and a scuffle ensued. After this, around 10 students joined in. Sumel kicked Kailasam’s leg which resulted in a fracture. We admitted him to a private hospital in Madinaguda.”

Amol Singh had a different version. He said, “My brother Sumel Singh, who lives in a rented house close to the university, I, and another student were walking on the road after the meeting. The ABVP students who had taken out the rally were drunk. One of them attacked us with his bike. After this they beat us up. We managed to escape and hid in a nearby hostel. I went to the health centre where I was referred to a private hospital. There again we were attacked by two other members of ABVP. After this we requested the university to refer us to another hospital where I took treatment. They made anti-Muslim statements thinking we are Kashmiri Muslims.”

Both student groups gave written complaints to the university and to the police on Sunday.
