Krishnagiri: The state toppers in plus-2 exam, K.H. Jaswanth and V.Aarthi from Sri Vidya Mandir school in backward Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district ought to be celebrating in their homes, but they are worried if they would get a medical seat and are anxiously preparing for the common entrance exam (Neet) far from their residences.
“I wish to study MBBS but I am worried whether I will be getting the medical admission because the Neet based on the CBSE syllabus,” rues. Jaswanth, who is staying in Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district to get coaching for the all-India medical entrance exam.
“It will be tough for the state board students like me if the entrance exam is based on CBSE syllabus. The board also has not given sufficient time for us to prepare for the examination,” Jaswanth told the DC over the phone from Tiruttani.
Both Jaswanth and his schoolmate Aarthi, who have emerged state toppers with a startling score of 1195 out 1200 have secured centums in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics and lost just one mark in Physics.
With their cut-off marks, they would have easily got admitted to top medical colleges in Tamil Nadu if there was no common entrance exam for medical admissions. But the Supreme Court ruling that medical admissions should be based only on common entrance exam have left them in a fix.
Aarthi’s father P. Venkatachalam, 48, who works as the stores controller in TNEB said Aarthi wished to study MBBS and is now studying in a private coaching centre for writing the Neet in July.
