Mosquito at your service in Hyderabad International Convention Centre

Hitex and HICC are the two preferred choices to host international and national-level conferences and expos on a regular basis.

Hyderabad: Lack of cleanliness has resulted in mosquito menace at posh Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Madhapur.

Hitex and HICC are the two preferred choices to host international and national-level conferences and expos on a regular basis.

In this plush area of Cyberabad, delegates of such conferences and international visitors are now being welcomed by buzzing mosquitoes at the conference halls, meeting rooms and dining area.

The second edition of GreenPro Summit 2018 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) commenced at the HICC on Tuesday. A delegate at the summit said, “You can see mosquitoes in every room here. In day time, I have never seen mosquitoes in Hyderabad. Due to unsustainable practices of living, the sewage gets thrown out and food waste goes in the drain, thus amounting to breeding of these mosquitoes.”

Since most of the visitors are travellers from outside city, such menace will show the city in poor light.

There is a lake in the vicinity wherein sewage water reportedly flows in from the drains. However, recently residents near Hitex area reported of sewage water flowing into the apartments that eventually leads to mosquito menace.

A GHMC official attributed the presence of several water bodies in the surrounding area for the mosquito menace. When probed about fogging in the area, the official said, “It depends on the area. It can be done weekly once or once in a fortnight. Whenever some special events are happening, we take special measures to curb mosquito menace”.

The official recollected the time during the Global Entrepreneurship Summit when Ivanka Trump visited and said, “We had special instructions from the government. So we took up all the measures during the GES. This time around, we did not have any special instructions.”
