BENGALURU: The presence of a whopping 15.42 lakh first time voters in the revised electoral rolls could well force political parties to rework their strategies to woo voters ahead of forthcoming elections to the Legislative Assembly.
The process of revision of electoral rolls would go on till end of February. “Nearly 67 per cent of youngsters in the census have enrolled here. While the state has over 22.85 lakh youngsters in the age group of 18-19 years as per the census, over 15.42 lakh voters are already now on the voters list and during this summary revision alone, over 7.72 lakh voters were enrolled,” chief electoral officer, Sanjiv Kumar, told the media here on Saturday.
Going by the smallest Assembly segment like Sringeri, which has over 1.62 lakh voters, the state now has young voters who could fit into nine constituencies.
The other interesting aspect which has come to light following revision of electoral rolls is the gradual rise in number of women voters.
“In 2013, for every 1000 men voters, there were 958 women voters. This time, going by the tentative rolls, 972 women per 1000 men voters are on the list, a net rise of 14 women voters. In other words, over 6.5 lakh women voters have enrolled themselves this year,” he added.
