Indira Nagar fumes as illegal bars thrive

For over a year, the issue was raised through various means such as calls, visits, letters and messages.

Bengaluru: With the authorities failing to take action against illegal bars and commercial establishments in Indirangar even seven months after the High Court ordered their shut-down, I Change Indiranagar, a federation of eight Resident Welfare Associations of the area, met BBMP Joint Commissioner (East), and the Minister for Health on Saturday to protest the delay. The Joint Commissioner reportedly made it clear that the illegal establishments would have to be closed immediately by the health officer and Ministry of Health (MOH). He also promised to visit Indiranagar on December 22 to get a first hand feel of the situation.

“For the past one -and -a -half years we have been approaching the commissioner on this issue. And now it's been seven months and still nothing has been done despite the High Court and Commissioner's order,” said Ms Sneha Nandihal, president of the BM Kaval Residents Welfare Association. “It’s time the BBMP learnt that it is governing a city of educated citizens. No longer will its lies, subversion and baseless interpretations of law be treated lightly,” warned Mr Raj Pillai, president, Indiranagar 2nd tage RWA. For over a year, the issue was raised through various means such as calls, visits, letters and messages. But the authorities have done little in response. The residents decided to come up with some conclusive time- bound action after the health officer gave various excuses such as noncooperation from the corporators, letters being lost and not received for the situation.
