MK Stalin wants Chennai government to hike diffabled quota

He recalled that a board for the differently-abled was formed and a separate department was formed for them during the DMK rule.

Chennai: Welcoming the Centre's legislation to increase the reservation for differently-abled in education and employment, Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Friday said the state government should also follow the centre and raise the quota.

Noting that the Centre had also increased the categories of differently-abled from 7 to 21, Stalin said their reservation in employment had been increased from 3 to 4 per cent and in higher education from 3 to 5 per cent.

He recalled that a board for the differently-abled was formed and a separate department was formed for them during the DMK rule. A special drive to fill the 3 per cent vacancies was held and a high level committee was formed to monitor the implementation of reservation for them.

Stalin demanded that the state government to raise the reservation to the same level specified by the centre and fill the vacancies reserved for the differently-abled.
