M Karunanidhi doing well, asserts Duraimurugan

Karunanidhi was not seen in public for about two months, but he was giving statements on major issues from home.

Chennai: Assuring that DMK chief M. Karunanidhi is well, party’s principal secretary K. Duraimurugan on Friday asserted that there would be transparency as far as his party leader is concerned and doctors would issue clear statements.
Talking to reporters outside Kauvery Hospital where Karunanidhi was admitted on Thursday, Duraimurugan said “there is no problem at all”.

The hospital in its statement on Karunanidhi said “He is stable, on antibiotics and is being treated by a team of doctors”. It further said Karunanidhi who was readmitted at the hospital with breathing difficulty due to throat and lung infection, has undergone tracheostomy to optimise breathing.

VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, TNCC former president E.V.K.S. Elangovan and CPI former state secretary D. Pandian visited the hospital and enquired about Karunanidhi's health.

On December 1, Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery hospital for 'optimisation of nutrition and hydration”. The DMK leader was treated for 'allergic reactions' and was discharged after a week.

Karunanidhi was not seen in public for about two months, but he was giving statements on major issues from home. There were no statements from him for more than a week.

The party's general council meeting is scheduled to be held on December 20.
Although, general secretary announced that Karunanidhi would preside over the meeting, his presence in the meeting itself is now doubtful.

Rahul Gandhi visiting Karuna in Kauvery hospital

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is visiting Karunanidhi at Cauvery hospital on Saturday morning, sources said. They said Mr Gandhi is likely to arrive at Chennai at about 11 am and drive straight to the Kauvery Hospital where the 92-year-old DMK chief has been undergoing treatment for breathing difficulties since late Thursday night.

Mr Gandhi was in Chennai on October 7 visiting Apollo Hospital to enquire about Jayalalithaa. On that trip, he did not visit Karunanidhi though he too was unwell and hospitalised. Besides, the Congress and the DMK are poll allies.
