GHMC confines demolitions to knocking down a few walls

The Nanakramguda building collapse, it seems, have not moved the GHMC.

HYDERABAD: The Nanakramguda building collapse it, seems, have not moved the GHMC. It has confined demolitions to a few illegal floors. The illegal first building of Satyanarayana Singh, arrested for last week’s building collapse at Nanakramguda, remains untouched. On the first day, the GHMC demolished six structures, nine on the second day and five on the third.

The GHMC sealed CC Shroff Trust Hospital, Kacheguda, only after minister K.T. Rama Rao, received a tweet about an illegal cellar. The GHMC stopped an illegal cellar of Meridian Hotel at Panjagutta and removed sheds on Road Number 2, Banjara Hills.

Mr R. Vishnu of Attapur said, “I had written to the zonal commissioner against an illegal construction in Mushk Mahal Complex, Huda Colony, Attapur. A four-floor building is being built on a 120 sq. yd plot which is illegal. There was no response.” Asked about this, GHMC commissioner Dr. B. Ja-nardhan Reddy said, “It is an ongoing process. We have razed 1,801 illegal and dilapidated structures, the highest so far.”

He said before the GHMC demolishes illegal buildings, it has to issue a notice. “It is mandatory for the GHMC to ensure the rehabilitation of the residents,” he said. In cases where owners have moved court, the GHMC would initiate action after it gets court orders. There were 6,000 cases of illegal buildings pending in court, he said.
