Kakinada: Huge rush for houses for all scheme'

The huge rush for the Houses of All scheme has left the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) searching for land to build dwellings.

KAKINADA: The huge rush for the Houses of All scheme has left the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) searching for land to build dwellings. The Smart City project also covers building huoses for the poor. According to an official, more than 20,000 people applied for the houses, and 4,608 houses have been sanctioned in the first phase.

The KMC has found 47 acres of land at Dummulapet but some part of it is not suitable for house construction due to the quality of its soil. Besides, a society claims 25 acres of the land. Officials nevertheless have started levelling of the land in the remaining part. The government has shortlisted three types of constructions — measuring 430 sq. ft, 330 and 265 sq. ft — to be allotted depending on the financial capacity of the beneficiary. “We are searching for suitable land to reach the goal,” an official said.

During the Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy government houses were constructed under the Rajiv Gruha Kalpa scheme. The apartments are in bad shape and Mr Naidu has sanctioned money for their repairs. Stating that it was a problem to find land to build the houses, Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao (Kondababu) said he was confident that the KMC would sort out the problem.

He said that 36 acres of land out of 47 acres had been identified in Dummulapet and efforts were being made to get land at Chollangi in Tallarevu mandal. He said beneficiaries need not worry about the quality of the construction as new technology which was adopted at Peddapuram would be used.
