Andhra Pradesh: Innovative ways to pick up ideas

The Agriculture Principal Secretary said he would look into the proposal.

Visakhapatnam: There could be Agri Incubation Centres in the lines of startup incubation centre in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh to give wings to the innovative ideas of developing and improving various agriculture practices. This proposal was given by the Iowa State University Global Programme Coordinator Dr Dileepkumar Guntuku when a participant asked about how the ideas could be shared to develop farming practices.

“Small farmers or some person might have innovative ideas. But, those ideas do not come to light immediately. There should be incubation centre in all the districts, where people can bring their ideas and develop with the assistance of the government or private players," said Mr Guntuku appreciating the proposal of the participants.The Agriculture Principal Secretary said he would look into the proposal. The secretary also said that talks with the Iowa University are at the advanced stage and the work would begin soon at Kurnool.

An investment outlay of Rs 671 crores has been prepared and 650 acres of land allocated for the project, he said. The government entered into an agreement with the Iowa University of US. The government will release Rs 150 crore during phase-I of the project. World-class laboratories, seed processing facilities, research and development centres and facilities with international quality to export the seed would form part of the project, he said. Progressive farmers from various districts were felicitated at the summit on Thursday.
