This is part of the Government's initiative to distribute cooking gas through private agencies and government departments.

Kollam: In a first of its kind initiative in the State, Matsyafed, in cooperation with the Indian Oil Corporation, starts distribution of 5kg cooking gas (LPG) cylinders through its petrol and kerosene outlets. In the first phase, the cylinders will be available for the public to purchase from the outlets in Kollam. This is part of the Government's initiative to distribute cooking gas through private agencies and government departments.

"The cylinders will be readily available at kerosene distribution centers in Neendakara and Thangasseri, Vyasa store in Neendakara, and the diesel pump in Sakthikulangara. The Sakthikulangara diesel pump will function 24 hours distributing the gas cylinders," an official with Matsyafed said.

The consumers need to produce their identity proof including driving licence, aadhaar, and ration card to avail cooking gas connection. A kit including cylinder, regulator and hose will be provided to the consumers for Rs. 1,722. Empty gas cylinder could be replaced with filled ones for Rs. 412 at these outlets.

The 5kg cooking gas will be convenient for fishermen to carry it in boats during their fishing at sea and for households. Matsyafed will start gas cylinder supply through its outlets across the State with the support of IOC.
