Secunderabad Cantonment Board reservoirs work pending

SCB Ward 6 member Pandu Yadav said that land had been identified but officials had stopped pursuing the matter.

Hyderabad: There has been no headway in the construction of drinking water reservoirs in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) limits.

The then chief executive officer Sujatha Mehta had resolved to construct two reservoirs near Hasmathpet and Rasoolpura.

SCB Ward 6 member Pandu Yadav said that land had been identified but officials had stopped pursuing the matter.

“I was told that water supply issues would be solved to a major extent through the Godavari drinking water project, and water would be released more frequently. The officials’ view is that construction of a reservoir is not necessary now,” he said.

SCB vice-president J. Rama Krishna said that they were proposing building mini-reservoirs in various wards.

“Our objective is to streamline water supply network in all wards. A reservoir could be easily built in case of land availability. This will ensure water storage and supply afterwards in that particular ward,” he said.

He said elected representatives had taken the issue to the notice of officials in New Delhi and are waiting for approval. The SCB depends on the Metro Water Board for water.

An official said the SCB has limited storage capacities. “More mini reservoirs would serve as a back-up option. Even if water supply from main line is affected, the stored water could be handy in meeting water needs in that particular ward at least for a few days,” he said.
