Kannur: Home department would take impartial action against the accused in political murders, said DGP Loknath Behera who visited Kannur after a series of such killings rocked the district.

Culprits' political colour would not be a barrier, the DGP affirmed, adding that there was no pressure from the government on him and his subordinate officers in taking unbiased action.

Mr Behera was speaking after the passing out parade of Kerala police fourth battalion and Malabar Special Police (MSP) at Mangattuparamba, near here on Sunday.

The DGP had convened a meeting of the top officials on Saturday night including North Zone ADGP Sudesh Kumar, Kannur Range IG Dinendra Kashyap, district police chief Sanjay Kumar Gurudin and investigating officers in the twin murder cases.

In a gap of two days, a CPM worker and a BJP worker were killed in Kannur last week and many houses and shops were attacked in a widespread violence that followed the murders.
