Chennai: The Naam Tamizhar Katchi students’ wing functionary succumbed Friday to the burns he sustained in his self-immolation bid on Thursday. The deceased, P. Vignesh (23), a Mannargudi native, had been admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH) with 93 percent burns. He lost consciousness within an hour's time, and was put on ventilator support thereafter.
Vignesh’s death was conveyed at 11.05 am to his father Pandian, who had come to see his son getting treatment in hospital. The post-mortem was done at a brisk pace and the body was handed over to the family by 1 pm. The body was kept at Naam Tamizhar Katchi office in Valasaravakkam where party members and other leaders paid their respect. The body was taken to Mannargudi later in the evening. The funeral is scheduled to take place at 11 am on Saturday.
Vignesh, a diploma holder, was working as a supervisor in a private company in Ambattur. He had last visited Mannargudi 3 months ago. He is survived by his father, mother and sister.
