Chennai: Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties Centre (DMDSC) announced the adoption of 25 villages in and around Kanchipuram district, at a function to earmark its silver jubilee celebrations in the city, on Friday. The event felicitated five legendary doctors, who have been an inspiration for their momentous contribution to healthcare services in India. Speaking at the event, Dr. J Radhakrishnan, principal secretary to government, department of health and family welfare, said, “We are challenged by non-communicable diseases and this is an occasion where we need to discuss how we can combat it. In 2012, most of the medical cases reported in India were from South India but today it has reduced to 3.5 percent. Change in attitude and behavior can bring any help us fight any disease. The Diabetic ambassadors are examples where we have to learn from”, he added.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. V. Mohan, said, “We are delighted to extend our services to the villages of Kanchipuram district and offer them affordable diabetes care. Basic medical assistance is still a far away dream for many remote areas of the country and keeping this mind, we have taken the effort to provide diabetes care at every doorstep”.
Apart from distributing blood glucose meters and strips to 25 children with Type 1 diabetes, over 100 diabetes ambassadors were also honored for managing their health conditions, despite high blood glucose levels since 1991. Prof. G Arjundas, former Professor of Nuerology, Madras Medical College and Hospital, Professor S. Kameswaran, Patron of Madras ENT Research Foundation, Dr Sarada Menon, Founder of Schizophrenia Research Foundation, Dr V. Shanta, Chairperson of Cancer Institute, Professor K.V. Thiruvengadam, Former Professor of Medicine, Stanley Medical college and Hospitals were the recipients of the DMDSC Lifetime Contribution award.
