Thiruvananthapuram: Rights to supply toys to flood-hit

The vehicles will be flagged off from Gandhipark here at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will reach Kozhikode on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The city-based social organisation RIGHTS will lift up the spirits of the children affected by the recent floods.

Ms Radhalakshmi, director of RIGHTS, which works for the rights of marginalised communities, said that children were not getting enough attention in the relief camps.

Therefore, the organisation will send two ‘Kalipatta Vandis’ (Toys vehicles) from here to Kozhikode to supply toys to the children.

The vehicles will be flagged off from Gandhipark here at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will reach Kozhikode on Monday.

They will collect dolls, toy cars, story books, crayons, footballs, cricket bats, cricket balls, chess boards, volley balls, skipping rods and badminton bats for the children to keep them engaged in the camps.

Toys will be collected from over 100 collection centres on the way. One vehicle will go by the MC road and pass through Kottayam- Thrissur-Kozhikode districts. The other will go by the national highway via Alappuzha and pass through Kodungalloor-Guruvayur.

Ms Radhalakshmi, who coordinated the initiative, told Deccan Chronicle that the collection centres on the way would be managed by social organisations. The vehicles would be GPS-enabled and the route can be accessed through the Google map.

The RIGHTS had distributed toys to children during the 2018 floods and organised an activity centre to provide them psychological help.
