Kottayam: Munnar town cut off

The landslip took place at the lower side of headworks dam and there are cracks on the road.

Kottayam: Munnar town was isolated following the rising water level in the town and landslips blocking vehicular traffic. Traffic was disrupted on the Kochi - Dhanushkodi national highway, Munnar - Udumalpetta interstate highway and Munnar- Aluva national highway, the three major roads connecting Munnar to the outside world. Old Munnar is inundated with floods. The landslip took place at the lower side of headworks dam and there are cracks on the road.
The water from the Kannimala - Nallathanny rivers flooded the town inundating many shops and commercial establishments. The flood waters entered the cottages of estate workers also. According to sources, the tourists staying in the hotels in Munnar are not able to move out due to the landslips. The electricity and the communication networks to Munnar were damaged. the water from the Mattupetty dam released on Tuesday is still opened.
