IT graduate posts video on FB against Tamil Nadu CM, held

Chennai: An information technology graduate and the son of a farmer from Vellore was arrested by the police for allegedly sharing a self-made video on Facebook in which he issued life threats to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the district collector and the superintendent of police of Vellore for continuing sand mining from Palar river bed. The arrested was identified as Vigneswaran of Thirumalaicheri village in Walajah.

Apart from criminal intimidation, the youth was also slapped with Section 67 of the IT Act, and being abusive with foul language, police said. His father own 13 acres of land in the village and had posted a video, taken on his mobile phone, against sand smuggling on Facebook. In the video he alleged that sand smuggling from Palar was done in connivance with the state government for the past 12 years.

He had urged authorities to understand the plight of farmers due to sand mining in Palar river bed and then threatened the CM and other officials. The video was posted on Monday evening and it went viral in several WhatsApp groups forcing the police to arrest him on Tuesday evening.
