Defunct borewells in Andhra Pradesh to be shut

Closing borewells is needed to ensure safety, said health minister Kamineni Srinivas.

Guntur: Following the borewell incident in Vinukonda in Guntur district on Tuesday, the state government has decided to close defunct borewells on a war-footing. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who closely monitored the rescue operation, directed officials to take necessary measures to identify abandoned borewells and close them as early as possible.

“Closing borewells is needed to ensure safety. Directions were passed to agriculture, groundwater, panchayat raj and revenue departments to close borewells, said health minister Kamineni Srinivas.
