'TDP seeks DMK's support for no trust move, blames AIADMK of going back on appnmnt

The TDP delegation has alleged that the ruling AIADMK went back on its appointment with it under pressure from the BJP.

Chennai: A delegation of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which renewed its efforts to exert pressure on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre, called on DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and sought the support of her party for the “No Confidence” motion against the PM for 'failing' to fulfill AP re-organisation Act 2014 provisions, in the monsoon session of the Parliament.

The TDP delegation has alleged that the ruling AIADMK went back on its appointment with it under pressure from the BJP. The three-member delegation, led by MP C. M. Ramesh, met Kanimozhi, who is daughter of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi. The TDP had pulled out of the BJP-led NDA on the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. It had moved a “No-Confidence” motion in the Lok Sabha during the previous Parliament session, but it could not be taken up since the House was not in order. The team was said to have presented a letter from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to Ms. Kanimozhi who said the DMK supported the TDP's demand for special category status.

“We have always been with them (TDP). We will continue to support their demand. They are just asking what was promised on the floor of the House,” she told reporters after meeting the delegation.

The TDP MP claimed Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam declined to meet them despite having given an appointment, a charge denied by the CM's office.

“We came to Chennai only after receiving an appointment from the CM and Deputy CM, but after coming here we were kept waiting indefinitely,” Mr. Ramesh claimed.

The TDP has announced it will once again move a “No-Confidence” motion in the coming session beginning July 18.
