Konda Vishweshwar Reddy booked for detaining 2 cops

The policemen lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police and a case was registered against the MP.

Hyderabad: Congress’ Chevella Lok Sabha candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who defected from the TRS last year, was booked by the Banjara Hills police for reportedly detaining a Cyberabad sub-inspector and constable at his office here on Tuesday.

It was alleged that the MP manhandled the policemen when they went to serve notice on him in a case of seizure of Rs 10 lakh cash from his alleged associate at Gachibowli two days before the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

On April 9, the Cyberabad police had caught one Konda Sandeep Reddy, an advocate working with Mr Vishweshwar Reddy, with Rs 10 lakh unaccounted cash near SLN Terminus Mall.

The police also seized some paper slips in which information about the expenditure on campaigning and liquor distribution were written besides some information in code.

In connection with that, a sub-inspector of police and a constable working with the Cyberabad police commissionerate went to the office of Mr Vishweshwar Reddy, located on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, to serve notice when they were illegally confined and manhandled.

The policemen lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police and a case was registered against the MP.

“Questioning them about their authority, the policemen were taken inside a room and confined for some time. They were reportedly manhandled inside the room by him (Mr Vishweshwar Reddy),” said a police official from the Hyderabad commissionerate on condition of anonymity.

A case under IPC Sections 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) has been registered, the officer said.

Late in the night, Mr Visweshwar Reddy lodged a counter complaint with the Banjara Hills police stating that no one at his office had manhandled any policeman.
