Hyderabad: TD working president and MLA A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said that the Muslim Reservation Enhancement Bill passed by the TS Legislature will not stand legal scrutiny as the government proposed a quota more than that was recommended by the BC Commission.
Mr Reddy along with another TD MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah staged a sit-in in front of the Assembly buildings.Speaking to newsmen, Mr Reddy said when the BC Commission has recommended a six per cent increase in the reservation quota for backward Muslim communities, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had increased the quota by eight per cent to gain political mileage.
“Quota for SCs and STs is guaranteed under Constitution. As far as backward Muslim quota is concerned, it requires an amendment to Constitution and approval by the Supreme Court, but the CM included both in one Bill,” he said.
Criticising the Chief Minister, Mr Reddy said, “The CM knew everything. He did not want to hike the quota for any section as he just wanted to politicise the issue. If the Bill gets struck down by a court, he would blame political parties for the lapses in the bill and want to get political mileage for this.”
