Nellore: Dry, wet garbage bins ease disposal

Keeping environment clean is as important as personal hygiene.

Nellore: Nellore Municipal Corporation has installed green and blue containers in 12 wards of the corporation where denizens would be able to deposit dry garbage in blue container and wet garbage in the green container after segregation. Joint Collector A. MD. Imtiaz has revealed this while addressing an awareness programme on Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan - Swachh Sarvekshna programme at Kasturba Kalakshethra here on Friday.

Referring to the importance that many people give to their dressing and personal hygiene, he said keeping environment clean and green is also equally important for a healthy living. He said India stood at 120th place out of 122 countries with respect to drinking water because of poor quality of water while attributing this to unhygienic conditions. The Joint Collector lamented the mortality of 6 lakh children below 5 years of age because of unclean environment.

Nellore Mayor SK Abdul Aziz said Nellore bagged 140th rank in cleanliness and 3rd place in ODF (Open Deification Free) and appealed for the cooperation of people in improving the ranking. Municipal Health Officer Amarendra Reddy said the success of any government programme depends on the participation of people. He appealed to the denizens of the city to make use of green and blue containers being supplied to every apartment shortly to segregate dry and wet waste.
