Council slams Kerala on night traffic ban

Transport secy had batted for Thallassery-Mysore rail.

KALPETTA: The Nilgiri-Wayanad National Highway and Railway Action Council which has been on a campaign to lift the night traffic ban through Bandipur Tiger Reserve, came out heavily against state government for the opinion registered by the transport secretary before the central team that the Thallassery-Mysore railway is the best remedy for the ban for night traffic. Action council convener T.M. Rasheed said in a press statement that it is high time the public should realise that the SC verdict is the last chance for the people of the district to get the road open or to ensure alternate traffic solutions.

Being a party in the legal wrangle at SC we have already submitted few suggestions at the SC including the bio-flyovers which have proved to be a success in many western nations. The state government took some dubious steps for torpedoing the possibilities by expressing secretly the foolish opinions before the high-level committee through transport secretary, who is the official representative of the state, the action council said. Highlighting Thallassery-Mysore railway as the sole solutions for the traffic woes of people after the ban for night traffic exposes the true colours of those who lead the state, it was pointed out.

The viable suggestions now under discussion are over bridges on animal corridors, bio flyovers, tunnels, alternative roads, proposed railway lines linking Nanjangud and Nilambur and Thallassery and Mysore. To mobilize public opinion and to streamline strategies a public convention will be held at Vyapara Bhavan, Sulthan Bathery on Sunday at 4 30 pm. Those unable to participate can also give suggestions in the mobile number 7907714886 or through whatsapp in the same number.
