Telangana High Court orders merit list of sub-inspectors exams to be revised

The question paper allegedly contained wrong questions.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the State Level Recruitment Board to publish a revised merit list of qualified candidates after deletion of six questions in the preliminary test to recruit sub-inspectors.

The question paper allegedly contained wrong questions. The court also ordered that further steps like conducting physical measurement of the candidates must be done only after publication of the revised list.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao passed interim directions while hearing the pleas of some candidates who sought directions to the TSLRB to delete the six wrong questions and stop the recruitment procedure.

The judge confirmed that the six questions were framed wrongly or contained ambiguous answers and directed their deletion. It said the recruitment board cannot contend that whatever merit list was notified by them has to be maintained.

Justice Ramachandra Rao said, “Merit of all candidates except those who have already qualified be re-determined by excluding the above six questions. (The board) shall publish the revised list of all candidates with marks obtained each such candidate except those who have qualified and then proceed to conduct the next stage tests such as physical measurement test (PMT) etc.”

The TSLPRB issued a notification on May 31, 2018, for the recruitment of 1,217 sub-inspectors in various categories with four stages of examination — preliminary written test, physical measurement test, physical efficiency test, and final written test.

The preliminary test was conducted on August 26, 2018, and a key was made available the next day. Based on this, some candidates objected stating that there were wrong answers or questions.

As their objections were not considered, the candidates approached the High Court.
