Bengaluru: The HAL police and HAL Airport BBMP ward officials locked horns over the demolition of a police chowki at Islampura Circle during a footpath encroachment clearing drive on Monday.
The police said that a police official from HAL, Givindraju B.G., was on rounds when he noticed that the police chowki had reduced to rubble. He learnt from local residents that the chowki was demolished under the supervision of the local corporator and BBMP officials.
He then filed a complaint and named councillor N. Manjunath and the BBMP engineer concerned as accused. They were booked for mischief, trespass and deterring a government servant from discharging his duties. But when the probe was taken up, it came to light that the chowki was put up on the footpath a few years ago. Also, no policeman was using it and it had no boards, furniture or police equipment. The councillor and BBMP engineer brought it down during the encroachment clearing drive, a police officer said.
When the councillor and BBMP engineer learnt that the police had taken objection to their act, they promised the HAL police station house officer that they would build a new chowki at the same spot, another police official said.
