Chennai: Four killed, 5 injured in separate mishaps

In one incident, one of the front tyres burst, leading to the tragedy.

Chennai: Four persons were killed and five others injured in separate accidents in Kancheepuram district on Kaanum Pongal.

In one of the incidents near Manimangalam, a car turned turtle after one of the tyres burst leading to the death of two persons including an elderly lady, who was sitting by the roadside.

The incident happened around 2 pm on Tuesday, police said. V Soundararajan (23) of Vanchuvanchery near Padappai had set off in his car towards Chennai along with his friends, Dinakaran, Srinivasan, Dinesh and Pallu.

While the car was moving along Manimangalam road, one of the front tyres burst. Soundararajan who was driving the car lost control of the vehicle and the car toppled more than twice and crushed a 65-year-old woman shepherding her cattle.

The occupants of the car and the elderly woman, E. Kamala, were moved to Chromepet government hospital where Kamala and Soundararajan were declared brought dead. Manimangalam police registered a case and moved the injured to a private hospital for further treatment.

In another accident during the early hours of the day, two men were killed and another escaped with injuries after a speeding car hit their two-wheeler from behind near Achirupakkam along the Chennai-Tiruchi National highway. The deceased were identified as E Veerappan, 45 and G Deivakannu, 54. They are vendors outside Melmaruvathur temple, police said. They along with another friend, Veera Raghavan, were riding towards the temple when the incident happened.

The speeding car, a Mahindra Duster, was abandoned by the driver after the accident. Achirupakkam police moved the trio to the Chengelpet government hospital where two of them were declared brought dead. Further probe is on.
