KPCC says women's wall not acceptable

Asks CPM not to utilise govt funds for it,

Thiruvananthapuram: The KPCC has decided to resist tooth and nail the women wall planned by the LDF government on January 1.

A meeting of the political affairs committee here on Saturday asked the government not to utilise state funds and machinery for the wall. The PAC said the government was planning to use school buses and the workers of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for the purpose. This was not acceptable, it said. The UDF had earlier decided to campaign against the wall by terming it as ‘communal wall.’

The PAC members also criticised the CPM reluctance to accept the leadership of the Congress which had won the Assembly elections in the three North Indian states. The CPM’s presence was declining in the north and out of 12 Assembly seats it contested in Madhya Pradesh, it got only 16, 000 votes in total, a PAC member said.

“Out of 36 Assembly seats in Rajasthan, the CPM candidates lost their deposits in 34 constituencies,” he said.

The meeting also passed a resolution condemning the LDF government’s move to raise the women wall, which it said will polarise the communities. In another resolution, it criticised the CPM’s negative stand on the Opposition unity at the national level. KPCC working president Kodikunnil Suresh presented the two resolutions.

KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran said he would hold talks with the AICC leadership in Delhi on the party reva-mp. Earlier, Mr Mullap-ally held marathon talks with all the 14 DCC presidents and in-charges of Parliament constituencies on the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections and on strengthening of booth committees.

“Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) will be provided training in all the 24, 000 booth committees ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The ‘Renaissance Yatra’ will be kicked off on December 28 by the KPCC leadership. Also, house-to-house visits will be held on December 20-23,” said a DCC president.
