Chandrababu Naidu wants students to highlight health, hygiene

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that students should give priority for personal hygiene and cleanliness of surroundings. Inaugurating World Handwash Day programme at Zilla Parishad High School at Atkur village in Krishna district on Saturday, the Chief Minister said teachers should mould students as good citizens. He said students should create awareness among people on cleanliness to prevent spread of deadly epidemics. He asked the students to take up plantation programme in a big way. The Chief Minister said that the state government would encourage the students and spend huge amount of money towards their education.

Earlier addressing a review meeting on clean surroundings and Vanam Manam programme with officials of education, municipal, health and panchayat raj through tele-conference from his residence, the Chief Minister said the number of dengue fevers came down to 71 from 1,389 cases and malaria to 324 cases from 15,795 with the cooperation of officials and people.

Medical and health chief secretary Poonam Malakondaiah said 126 medical teams were formed to cover the entire state. Each team was provided with a vehicle, community health officer, health assistant, health supervisor and health educator. The teams covered 65,74,972 houses so far. She said 7,19,065 mosquito breeding centres were identified and anti-larvae operations were carried out.
