Hyderabad: Information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday said that the state government was focusing on safeguarding the IT sector from threats.
While announcing four sectoral policies covering data centres, open data, cyber security and data analytics, the minister said that the city has good infrastructure and industry friendly policies for companies related to IT and auxiliary sectors.
He said that the government would concentrate on cloud computing, gaming, intellectual property and big data.
“Big data is providing employment opportunities to thousands of youth in the state. The state government is encouraging IT sector as youth of the country look to the IT sector as an employment generating sector,” he said. Mr Rao said four of the top five firms in the world were functioning from Hyderabad.
“Besides IT and service sectors, we are encouraging manufacturing sector, which has also created employment opportunities to youth in the state. We have released four sectoral policies after a comprehensive study. Heads of top IT companies and experts from the technology sector have studied these four sectors,” he said.
Cisco’s president for India and Saarc region, Dinesh Malkani, said the company would deploy its city digital platform on a two-kilometre area near Hitec City, including smart Wi-Fi, smart parking, smart lighting and traffic analytics at key junctions.
It would include remote expert for government services (REGS), smart environmental sensors, smart waste management and a smart control centre to manage the city.
“Cisco will set up a centre of excellence and a Living Lab in the T-Hub premises to foster regional innovation, and will enable partners and start-ups to build solutions around Internet of Things and cyber security. It will set up virtual video-based classrooms in ten remote schools in Karimnagar district for inter-school learning and the solution will connect the district school to the remote schools for sharing faculty” he said.
