Hyderabad: School in the dock for insulting flag

A complaint was lodged under Section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971.

Hyderabad: Rein Bazar Police booked a case against the owner of Jawahar High School and Junior College in SRT Colony in Yakutpura for insulting the national flag under National Honour Act as the school’s management had the photo of a local politician pasted overlapping the flag and the same was displayed in the premises on the occasion of Independence Day.

According to the Police, Ayub Shah, the owner of the school got a flex made with a life size picture of a local politician, covering the national flag and used the same to display on Independence Day procession in his school’s premises. “A flex banner looked like the politician was walking on the flag,” said the Police Inspector of Rein Bazar, Mohd Abdul Javed, adding that our Police Constable noticed the flex board. “A complaint was lodged under Section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971, which prohibits the desecration of, or insult to, the country’s national symbols, including the national flag, the Constitution, the national anthem and map of India” official said, adding that the police is yet to arrest Mr. Shah.
