Hyderabad: Telangana is already halfway through its monsoon months, but the state is still falling short of the required rainfall. As on August 15, 2017, the rainfall average for the state is minus 15 which means that the rainfall received in the last 15 days of the month has not crossed its expected mark. None of the city’s reservoirs have got inflows. The water levels figures that were marked in June have not risen any further in August.
“None of the reservoirs have got sufficient inflows. Himayat Sagar, Osman Sagar, Singur, Manjeera Dam are all maintaining the same water levels they had reached last month. The worry is over the inflow at Nagarjunasagar as it is at its bottommost level. The water levels at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs stand at their lowest figures.
Out of the 10 districts in Telangana that also cover the mandals turned new districts, 8 have received insufficient rainfall , namely Adilabad(-30), Karim Nagar(-22) , Mahbubnagar , Medak(-20), Nalgonda(-16), Nizamabad (-9) , Ranga Reddy (-27 ) and Warangal (-6 ).
Hyderabad and Khammam are the only districts that have surplus figures, but the margins are not impressive. The capital city has received 7 percent more rainfall from its normal expectancy.
The Southwest monsoon currents were normal over the state in the past few days due to the upper air circulation (depression) over the Bay of Bengal. However in the last 24 hours, the currents have turned weak.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred in isolated areas of the state but there have been no reports of heavy showers.
Though the present weather condition has been able to bring down day temperatures, none of the districts have reported a heavy spell.
