4-year-old misfires gun, one injured in Dasarahalli

The injured has been identified as Govindappa, a retired employee of ISRO and a resident of Dasarahalli.

Bengaluru: A man aged 67 years sustained injuries when a bullet misfired from a revolver with which a four-year-old boy was playing. The incident occurred at Chokkasandra in Dasarahalli in Peenya police limits on Monday morning.

The injured has been identified as Govindappa, a retired employee of ISRO and a resident of Dasarahalli. The incident took place in the house of former corporator of Dasarahalli CMC, Muniraju, who is Govindappa’s friend.

Govindappa visited his friend Muniraju’s house frequently. Even on Monday around 10.30 am, he had gone to the former corporator’s house along with another friend. They were sitting in the balcony of the second floor of the house when Muniraju went to the bathroom to wash his face. He also changed his dress and kept the revolver attached to his belt on the bed in a room close to the balcony.

“Within minutes, Muniraju’s four-year-old grandson picked up the revolver and started playing with it. He brought the weapon to the balcony, put it on the ground and was playing. Govindappa and his friend did not pay any attention to the child as they were busy reading newspapers. The boy accidentally pressed the trigger and a bullet misfired. It hit the left part of Govindappa’s neck and exited. Muniraju and others immediately rushed him to a hospital and later admitted him to Sparsh Hospital on Tumakuru Road. The doctors, who treated him, said he is out of danger,” the police said.

“The entire incident is captured on the CCTV camera installed in the house and it’s a case of negligence. Muniraju holds the gun licence for the last many years,” the police said.

DCP (North) T. R. Suresh said that the Peenya police have registered a case of negligence against Muniraju.
