VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that completing the Polavaram project as per schedule would be a real tribute to Dr K L Rao, an engineer who was a man of principles and values whom all engineering students should strive to emulate. Speaking at a function in observance of Mr Rao's 114th birth anniversary, organized by the Ministry of Water Resources in Vijayawada on Friday, the CM viewed the live videography of the flow of the Godavari waters through the Polavaram right main canal with the help of a drone camera.

He said that the Pattiseema lift irrigation project was helping supply Godavari water to the Krishna delta without waiting for the Krishna's waters from Nagarjuna Sagar. He said that the government had been planning to link several other rivers in the state on par with the Krishna and Godavari. Mr Naidu exhorted students not to confine themselves to classrooms, but to concentrate on developing cost-effective designs for projects by acquiring practical knowledge, which came from visiting various project sites and by taking inspiration from Dr K L Rao.
He cited the instance of how the AP government had developed a technology to monitor the functioning of thousands of LED bulbs in Visakhapatnam from a central control room. The government was planning to offer the fibrenet facility at a cost of Rs 149 by August to provide internet, phone and TV facility to each household.

The project would be completed at a cost of Rs 330 crore by using the existing electrical poles. The Chief Minister felicitated Vijaya Rao, son of Dr K L Rao. Minister for water resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, chief secretary SP Tucker and engineers were present.
