Tipu Jayanti violence: Report blames top Kodagu officers

he cabinet decided to scout for another place to house the club.

Bengaluru: Carlton House, a heritage building which houses the headquarters of the CID, will be preserved notwithstanding pressure from Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and legislators to turn it into the Constitution Club.

A decision to preserve this heritage structure was taken by the state cabinet on the basis of a report submitted by the home ministry. The cabinet decided to scout for another place to house the club.

Law minister T B Jayachandra told the media that it would not be appropriate to tamper with a heritage building as well as relocate the entire establishment of CID.

He said the cabinet also accepted a report submitted on completion of a magisterial inquiry into violence in Madikeri, Kodagu district, on November 10, on the eve of Tipu Jayanti celebrations. One person, Mr Kuttappa, was killed in violence and arson forcing the local police to impose prohibitory orders. The inquiry report has pointed at lapses on the part of then deputy commissioner of Kodagu, Mr Meer Anees Ahmed, Superintendent of Police, Ms Vartika Katiyar, and IGP (Southern range) Mr B K Singh. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against Mr Meer Anees and Ms Katiyar, and a show cause notice served on Mr Singh.

When his attention was drawn to the fact that Mr Meer Anees had retired, Mr Jayachandra said action would still be initiated against him.
