ONGC pipeline replaced: Kathiramangalam

The ONGC officials stopped taking crude in the pipeline immediately after the leak on April 27.

Thanjavur: Amid tight security provided by the police on Tuesday, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) officials replaced the defective pipeline with new ones from “Kuttalam 7” oil well where a leakage was reported and oil spill occurred on April 27 at Kathiramangalam village near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district.

It may be recalled that an oil spill occurred in the field of Nadarajan on Mathakadi road near cremation ground from the pipeline taking crude from ‘Kuttalam 7 oil well’ at Kathiramanagalam near Kumbakonam to a refinery at Kuttalam.

The ONGC officials stopped taking crude in the pipeline immediately after the leak on April 27. On Tuesday, using poclain and other machinery, they replaced the defective pipeline with new ones.

Nearly 150 police personnel led by Ramachandran, DSP, Thiruvidaimaruthur, and revenue officials were on duty to prevent any untoward incident as people of the village have been demanding the ONGC to stop all its activities and vacate the village.
