Burdwan blast: NIA quizzes Chennai man

The sleuths after grilling Ebin Abdullah gathered information which indicated that the suspect had left Chennai and now holed up in Kerala.

Chennai: Sleuths of NIA on Thursday questioned a person of Chennai in connection with the Burdwan blast in WB on October 2, 2014.

“He was picked up for questioning based on confession from the already arrested suspects,” NIA sources said here. Ebin Abdullah was picked up from Ambedkar Nagar at Madhavaram for questioning. However, the sources said he was not involved in any of their cases. “We wanted to make some enquiry about another person who was staying with him earlier,” sources added. He was let off.
Ebin Abdullah, a native of West Bengal, had been working as a driver since 2013 in Chennai. He is believed to have given some details of the man wanted by NIA, after the photograph of the suspect was shown to him.

“The suspect we are looking for had links with Burdwan blast, which had killed two persons and injured one. All the three were engaged in bomb making in a house in Khagragarh area of Burdwan when it exploded,” sources said.

The sleuths after grilling Ebin Abdullah gathered information which indicated that the suspect had left Chennai and now holed up in Kerala. The victims were believed to be members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, working against the Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. JMB is allegedly using West Bengal as its sanctuary across the border.

The two dead men were identified as Shovan Mandal and Shakil Ahmed. The injured man was identified as Abdul Halim. NIA later arrested two women who were in the house. They were Shakil Ahmed’s wife Rumi Bibi and Abdul Halim’s wife Amina Bibi. The JMB, inspired by Al Qaeda, was reportedly working for an Islamic state in Bangladesh.
