Change jurisdiction of Water Board: Devineni Umamaheswara Rao

He requested the Union govt to change the jurisdiction of the Water Management Board in accordance with the state bifurcation Act.

Vijayawada: Water resources minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao requested the Union government to change the jurisdiction of the Water Management Board in accordance with the state bifurcation Act. While attending the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sanchay Yojana meeting in Delhi along with all state water resources ministers, Mr Umamaheswara shared with the media that he discussed with the Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on the Krishna and Godavari Water Management Boards.

He also recalled that arguments are continuing in Supreme Court on Brijesh Kumar tribunal which succeeded the Bachawat tribunal. Mr Umamaheswara Rao opined that if the jurisdiction is fixed according to the bifurcation act it will benefit them to provide water to tail-end ayucut and said irrigation employees of both Telugu states are discussing the same. He also shared that that the Union government officials sought the details of Godavari water reserves and the details of consumption and asked to submit the DPRs for new projects to KRMB and GRMB.

Mr Rao also told that he requested the Union government to release the balance funds for Pattiseema and Purushottapatnam irrigation projects which are constructed for the benefits of farmers and even requested to release the balance funds of 8 irrigation projects which are initiated decades ago with the cost estimates of Rs 1858.67 crore while Centre had released only Rs 498.90 crores so far. He also explained that seven out of these eight, will be completed by this year end and present cost estimates of these projects are Rs 3,600 crore.
