Telangana: Quota bill may come up in February

Sources say, the Chief Minister wants to fulfil his promise of 12 per cent quota for Muslims but may opt for 10 per cent quota for STs.

Hyderabad: There is uncertainty about the passage of the Muslim/ST Reservation Bills in the ongoing winter session of the state Legislature. Sources say, the Chief Minister may make an announcement in the Legislative Assembly on January 17, during the debate on minority affairs, that the Muslim Reservation Bill will be introduced in the Budget session in February/March.

Sources said the Chief Minister wants to fulfil his promise of 12 per cent quota for Muslims but may opt for 10 per cent quota for STs, since the population of STs in the state is only 10 per cent. Since reservations are being extended based on population, the government feels that giving quota over and above the population would invite legal problems.
