While there were reports that the four surrendered at the Poojappura police station, the police denied it. There were also allegations that there was political pressure on the police to delay the case.

Meanwhile, the police special branch was learnt to have sent a report that there were lapses on the part of the police in taking swift action against the accused on Wednesday.

Though a police party was present when the three police personnel attached to SAP camp was attacked, the police did not made any effort to nab them. There was also an attempt by the police to hush up the incident.

However, police officers in the law and order wing said that those present at the spot were traffic police and they were not supposed to nab the accused. Though there were allegations that some police personnel tried to distort the visuals of the police's CCTV visuals of the locality, police sources said that it was nearly impossible. Civil police officers Sarath, Vinaya Chandran and Vipin Raj were attacked by the students after they were stopped for violating traffic rules. Sarath and Vinaya Chandran suffered severe injuries.
