Madras HC stays proceedings against director Murugadoss

Justice N.Anand Venkatesh who granted the interim stay, posted after six weeks, further hearing of the petition filed by Murugadoss.

Chennai: The Madras high court has stayed all further proceedings, pending before the Central Crime Branch police in Vepery, pursuant to a complaint against A. R. Murugadoss, the director of Tamil film “Sarkar”, starring popular film star Vijay.

Justice N.Anand Venkatesh who granted the interim stay, posted after six weeks, further hearing of the petition filed by Murugadoss.

In his complaint, one G.Devarajan sought to punish Murugadoss for allegedly depicting the welfare schemes and freebies provided by the state government in poor light.

Seeking to quash the proceedings pursuant to the complaint, Murugadoss In his petition, submitted that no prima facie case was made out against him. In a free democracy, criticizing the government policy was not an offence, he added.
